Young people from across the South Burnett have begun apprenticeships at Stanwell Corporation and Ergon Energy.<\/p>\n

Inductions at the State Government-owned corporations were held recently.<\/p>\n

At Stanwell,\u00a0eight new apprentices have started at Tarong Power Station, and they’re all from the South Burnett: Pacey Clegg, Brayden Ballin, Thomas Springate, Kate Cutler, Tyler Heness, Travis Baxter, Aaron Schultz and Tayla Wall.<\/p>\n

Stanwell has also inducted apprentices at its other sites in Queensland.<\/p>\n

Ergon Energy has also been recruiting apprentices, inducting a total of 76 apprentices this week across Queensland.<\/p>\n

These include Tynan Dugdell, from Kingaroy, and Kathryn Kidman, from Yarraman, who are currently doing their training in Maryborough.<\/p>\n

Kathryn is the first woman apprentice for the Yarraman depot.<\/p>\n

Energy Minister Dr Anthony Lynham praised the apprentices for their career choice and commitment to the community.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThey are being inducted as apprentices with one of the State\u2019s publicly owned electricity businesses and I wish them all the best in their future careers serving the region,” he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey have signed up for a role that will be challenging and far from routine, but it will also be very rewarding.<\/p>\n

\u201cA trades apprenticeship is an excellent foundation in understanding the electricity industry, and some of Ergon\u2019s executives and senior managers started their careers as apprentices.”<\/p>\n

The 76 Ergon apprentices include a record intake of 14 women.<\/p>\n

They will train as a communications technicians, distribution linespeople, transmission linespeople, mechanical trade (diesel fitting) or electricians.<\/p>\n

As well, Energex has hired 23 apprentices in the south-east corner and CS Energy will welcome two mechanical apprentices next month at Kogan Creek Power Station.<\/p>\n
