Rainfall across the region on Saturday failed to seriously dampen enthusiasm for the Nanango Stamp Club’s annual Stamp Fair.<\/p>\n

Only three of the 18 clubs who’d said they were coming to the 24-year-old event pulled out at the last minute because of the wet weather.<\/p>\n

But since this represented a drop of barely 20 on last year’s attendance figures, organisers simply shrugged their shoulders and pressed on.<\/p>\n

As usual, the Stamp Fair was held inside Nanango State High School’s hall and was attended by three professional stamp dealers along with stamp clubs from as far away as Gladstone, Bundaberg, Toowoomba, Maryborough, Twin Towns, Caloundra, Ipswich and Brisbane.<\/p>\n

Guests got to browse other clubs’ collections in the morning, as well as participate in an auction during the afternoon.<\/p>\n

A new feature this year’s Stamp Fair was a ‘Design Your Own Stamp’ competition.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The competition was run between school stamp clubs at Benarkin, Yarraman, St Patrick’s Nanango and Coolabunia State School, and students were challenged to design their own stamp.<\/p>\n

The winning entry was submitted by Vivien Mollenhauer from Coolabunia State School, and her prize was a sheet of twenty $1 personal stamps with her design attached to the official Australia Post $1 stamp.<\/p>\n

This year’s Stamp Fair was officially opened by South Burnett Mayor Keith Campbell, who also presented Vivien with her prize.<\/p>\n

The Stamp Fair itself was sponsored by Heritage Bank Nanango, the South Burnett Regional Council and Nanango State High School.<\/p>\n

The Nanango Stamp Club will be holding its next monthly meeting at Nanango RSL in Henry Street, Nanango from 10:00am onwards on Saturday, March 11, followed by lunch for those who’d like to stay on for a bite afterwards.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The club starts each year with its Stamp Fair in February, then meets at the RSL on the second Saturday of each month from March to December.<\/p>\n

The club is the South Burnett’s sole affiliated member of the Queensland Philatelic Council and promotes the hobby of stamp collecting in the region.<\/p>\n

Anyone who is interested in stamp collecting is very welcome to come along for a fun morning out with fellow collectors.<\/p>\n
