Work will begin soon on a $498,880 project to restore Murgon\u2019s water supply to its pre-flood service levels.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter the 2011 floods the Council put in a temporary arrangement to ensure Murgon continued to be supplied with water,\u201d Water and Waste Water spokesman Cr Barry Green said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe current arrangement means that the treatment plant has had to work day and night, which it cannot continue to do indefinitely.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis decision to restore the intake means it will be returned to the efficient system we had pre-flood.\u201d<\/p>\n

Council’s Program Director Flood Restoration Maurie McGuire said the tender for the work attracted eight contractors from Queensland and NSW.<\/p>\n

\u201cCouncil has decided to go with a tender submitted by Kay Associates Pty Ltd,” he said. <\/p>\n

“They are a Brisbane-based company with a wide range of experience in civil infrastructure projects including water storage and pumping structures.\u201d<\/p>\n

The contract is part of the South Burnett Regional Council\u2019s Flood Restoration Program and includes a submerged intake structure, twin submersible pumps and an electrical switchboard.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe work is expected to commence in January and be completed by late March, weather permitting,\u201d Cr Green said.<\/p>\n
