The Mundubbera to Jandowae Roads Working Group has\u00a0 welcomed last week’s announcement that more than $8 million will be spent improving two roads as a “great start”.<\/p>\n

The works, announced by Transport Minister Mark Bailey, will include sections of\u00a0 Chinchilla-Wondai Road and Mundubbera-Durong Road.<\/p>\n

However, the 11km stretch of single-lane on the Mundubbera-Durong Road and the John Peterson Bridge – which were the subject of much discussion before the State Election – will not be included in this first round of upgrades.<\/p>\n

Mr Bailey said design work had already begun for rehabilitating sections of\u00a0 the Chinchilla-Wondai Road and Mundubbera-Durong Road.<\/p>\n

On Mundubbera\u2013Durong Road, staged rehabilitation will take place on a 6.8km section from Chinchilla\u2013Wondai Road to just north of the Shellytop Road intersection.<\/p>\n

On Chinchilla\u2013Wondai Road, a 480m section through the Durong township will be rehabilitated along with a 2.4km section near Darr Creek.<\/p>\n

\u201cB-doubles regularly travel on both roads so rehabilitating them will ensure they are capable of handling heavier traffic well into the future,\u201d Mr Bailey said.<\/p>\n

Mr Bailey said detailed designs were also being completed for other potential upgrades along Mundubbera\u2013Durong Road.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cDesign is underway to widen a single-lane section of Mundubbera\u2013Durong Road between the council boundary and Proston\u2013Boondooma Road,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cFurther north, design is also being completed to replace the John Peterson Bridge at the Boyne River near Mundubbera.”<\/p>\n

\u201cThis design work will ensure my department is in the best possible position to progress these projects when funding becomes available.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Mundubbera to Jandowae Roads Working Group said it welcomed any improvements to the route and acknowledged the process to upgrade and maintain the roads would not happen overnight.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Roads Working Group chair and Deputy Chair of AgForce Queensland, Georgie Somerset,\u00a0said the outlined works were positive steps to rehabilitating the important linkage.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s fantastic to hear these roads are highlighted for future improvements by the State Government,” she said.<\/p>\n

“\u2018Completing the design work on key areas of concern such as the John Peterson Bridge and the single-lane section of the Mundubbera-Durong Road are a great start.”<\/p>\n

Mrs Somerset said the Mundubbera to Jandowae Roads Working Group was committed to continuing to support upgrades and ongoing maintenance of the two roads into the future.<\/p>\n

Mr Bailey said the road works would begin in March and were expected to be completed by the end of the year, weather permitting.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cRoadTek will deliver the works, which will be carried out between 6:00am and 6:00pm, Monday to Friday,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cTraffic controllers, temporary detours, single-lane closures and speed restrictions will be in place to complete the works safely and efficiently.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to thank motorists for their patience during this time.\u201d<\/p>\n
