FLASHBACK: A large crowd attended the official opening of Cherbourg’s fire station last year<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

January 24, 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council was presented with an Australia Day Appreciation Certificate on Wednesday at the QFES North Coast Region Australia Day Awards.<\/p>\n

The certificate was presented by Emergency Services Minister Craig Crawford at a ceremony held at the Gympie Civic Centre.<\/p>\n

Cherbourg Council was recognised for its collaboration with QFES to provide operational services to the Cherbourg community.<\/p>\n

Cherbourg’s fire station was officially re-opened in July last year and since then firefighters from the station have attended many local incidents.<\/p>\n

Also honoured at the ceremony was Clayton\u2019s Towing, which received a certificate for supporting QFES training and exercises.<\/p>\n

Six Australia Day Achievement Medallions were also presented to firefighters from the North Coast region, including Caloundra senior firefighter Greg Toman who was honoured for his significant involvement in the development of the QFES specialist remote rescue team.<\/p>\n

\u201cEach member of recognised today should be proud of their efforts,\u201d Mr Crawford said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey often work under extremely challenging conditions and never do so for reward or tributes.”<\/p>\n

QFES Commissioner Katarina Carroll said the recipients had made outstanding contributions to their communities and the organisation.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile their backgrounds and experiences may vary, they all share one common goal: devoting their time and expertise to community safety and serving Queenslanders in times of need,\u201d Ms Carroll said.<\/p>\n
