Martin Sacks in this year's special guest<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Aussie actor Martin Sacks<\/strong> – best known for his long-running role as PJ in Blue Heelers – has been revealed as the guest star who will launch the Big Screen Film Festival<\/strong> in Nanango on Friday, May 18.<\/p>\n

Martin has won five consecutive Silver Logies for Best Actor. His more recent work includes Sea Patrol, Offspring and Underbelly.<\/p>\n

South Burnett residents will be able to meet him in the flesh – and see him on the big screen – on the Friday and Saturday night of the festival.<\/p>\n

On the opening night, Martin will talk about his career and introduce a new short film, “This Dog’s Life”, about a man, played by Sacks, and his son.<\/p>\n

The feature film “Wish You Were Here” will follow, fresh from the Sundance Film Festival. This suspense-filled drama is about a man who disappears during a south-east Asian vacation.<\/p>\n

Opening night tickets also include complimentary drinks and refreshments served from 6:30pm.<\/p>\n

From 10:00am on Saturday, May 19, everyone’s favourite pup, Red Dog, will be on the screen.<\/p>\n

At 5:30pm, “Killer Elite” will be shown, starring Robert DeNiro.<\/p>\n

At 7:45pm, special guest Martin Sacks will introduce “The Cup” and talk about his experiences playing Neil Pinner, the manager and friend to Melbourne Cup jockey Damien Oliver. This triumphant and courageous story is from the director of “Phar Lap” and “The Lighthorsemen”.<\/p>\n

Wear your Fashions of the Field finest for prizes awarded by Martin and enjoy a phantom race call.<\/p>\n

Continuing the equestrian and outback theme, on Sunday, May 20, there will be a free screening of the historic Aussie movie “The Overlanders” plus 1940s Queensland newsreels.<\/p>\n

Chips Rafferty stars as the drover who takes a mob of prime beef cattle across 2600km of hazardous country to Queensland as the Japanese threaten Northern Australia in 1942.<\/p>\n
