The South Burnett Mayor’s Community Christmas Lunch has been hailed a success … $5600 was raised for local charities, and a new singing star was possibly unearthed.<\/p>\n

The lunch, held at Kingaroy Town Hall, attracted about 160 diners who each paid $25 a head as well as digging deep for tickets in a multi-draw raffle.<\/p>\n

All proceeds raised will be turned into food vouchers and distributed to South Burnett families by local charities.<\/p>\n

Professional entertainment at the lunch was provided by local duo MISfITZ and singers from Kingaroy State High School.<\/p>\n

However, a special surprise was when Mayor Keith Campbell took over the microphone to sing three duets with Rhonda Trivett, an experienced karaoke performer.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The audience gave Keith a standing ovation at the end of his first song, but despite this the duo performed two more items.<\/p>\n

The two-course lunch was prepared and served by volunteers from various local branches of the Queensland Country Women\u2019s Association.<\/p>\n

Guest speaker was ABC Mornings announcer Belinda Sanders who shared her story, and then compared her life to that of someone who had not enjoyed a stable childhood and education.<\/p>\n

At the end of the lunch, Mayor Campbell thanked the Council and QCWA volunteers, SupaIGA for providing the food, and Barry and Leanne Krosch and AGL for providing donations towards the costs.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis luncheon would not be able to be held each year without the very generous support of the South Burnett community, our sponsors and the support from local businesses,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
