A large storm which cut short Murgon’s annual Christmas Fair on Friday night may be the last straw for the festival’s organisers.<\/p>\n

Murgon Business and Development Association (MBDA) president Leo Geraghty said the Fair was cut two hours short by heavy rain which forced rides and stalls to close down.<\/p>\n

“We have been washed out three times in the last five years,” Leo said.<\/p>\n

“We may have to move it to either a Saturday or Sunday and run it from about 11:00am to 5:00pm.”<\/p>\n

This could help the Fair avoid the storms which seem to roll in during summer evenings.<\/p>\n

Leo said the Christmas Fair organising committee – which is a sub-committee of the MBDA – would probably hold a meeting soon to discuss a change of time and day.<\/p>\n

“There is so much money at stake,” Leo said.<\/p>\n

“It is a $27,000 promotion. We have lost a lot of money.”<\/p>\n

Before the thunderstorm broke, the Christmas Fair was running smoothly with rides in action, stalls open and the Rotary ham wheel spinning.<\/strong><\/p>\n

There was also live music in the Lamb Street rotunda, and plenty of children running around and having fun.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, Santa found his way to Murgon ahead of the storm, doing a lap of Lamb Street in a tractor-drawn buggy.<\/p>\n

However, he had only just settled down to meet his young fans when the big rain drops started to fall …<\/p>\n

Leo was full of praise for the volunteers who had organised this year’s Fair.<\/p>\n

“It’s a helluva lot of work. It’s just a shame it was washed out,” he said.<\/p>\n
