A recent Open Day at the Lady Bjelke-Petersen Community Hospital was judged a success by organisers.<\/p>\n

More than 100 people turned up to the two and a half hour event to take a tour of the hospital’s facilities.<\/p>\n

Afterwards, they could enjoy a relaxing afternoon tea prepared by the QCWA, or get stuck into a hearty barbecue lunch prepared by Kingaroy Lions Club members.<\/p>\n

The Open Day was the brainchild of the hospital’s Director of Clinical Services Michael Bishop.<\/p>\n

“I think there are still a lot of people in our community who don’t realise that many of the services they might have had to drive to Toowoomba or Brisbane to access are now available locally,” he said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“The hospital developed an enviable reputation for providing professional and compassionate health services over many years.<\/p>\n

“Under the management of the South Bank Medical Group, those services have continued to develop and the hospital is now able to provide an expanded range of surgical, out-of-home respite and convalescent services.”<\/p>\n

Michael said the Community Hospital now offers eye surgery (including cataracts), endoscopy and colonoscopy procedures, gynaecological surgery, paediatic dentistry surgery, laparoscopic surgery, a comprehensive range of women’s health services, IV therapy, transfusions, urology services, paediatric consultation, stress testing, palliative care, respite services and general surgery.<\/p>\n

“We are aiming to expand our services even further in the future, and we welcome suggestions and feedback on what people think may be missing from local health service offerings,” Michael said.<\/p>\n

But he hoped the relaxed format of the Open Day, where members of the public were given guided tours and able to ask staff questions, was a good way to introduce the hospital to the community.<\/p>\n
