Basketball coach Clarence ‘Pop’ Dickerson will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of his coaching camp in January<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Australia\u2019s longest running basketball training camp will be running again this January at Harristown State High School in Toowoomba.<\/p>\n

Supercamp is aimed at boys and girls from six to 18 years of age and caters for beginners to experienced players.<\/p>\n

Most of the children that attend Supercamp are from Queensland and NSW, but it also draws many young South Burnett basketball players and their parents.<\/p>\n

The camp is the brainchild of coach Clarence ‘Pop’ Dickerson, the former head coach of the Gold Coast Warriors and Toowoomba Mountaineers ABA teams.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“There is no doubting the success of Supercamp,” Clarence said.<\/p>\n

“The longevity of the camp, which is now in its 30th year, is an indication of its popularity.<\/p>\n

“I can confidently say that Supercamp is the longest running basketball camp in Australia.”<\/p>\n

Clarence said that back in basketball’s hey-days of the 1980\u2019s and 1990\u2019s, Supercamp would regularly attract 400 to 500 juniors each year.<\/p>\n

While the sport has now spawned other training camps, over the past 10 to 15 years Supercamp has been consistently attracting around 250 players to each camp.<\/p>\n

“That is still a really good number, and I think’s it’s also a really good indication that the game of basketball is in very good shape,” Clarence said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Supercamp offers three training sessions each day: morning, afternoon and evening.<\/p>\n

This timing assures that the coaching staff are given ample time to teach and the players are given ample time to learn.<\/p>\n

At January’s Supercamp, Pop Dickerson will be joined by former Brisbane Bullets great Andre Moore, along with NBL Hall of Fame coach Brian Kerle and other experienced coaches.<\/p>\n

“Over the years we’ve had many children from the South Burnett attend Supercamp, and now they’re grown up and are sending their own children here,” Clarence said.<\/p>\n

“So we’ll be holding a 30 year reunion the night before the start of January’s Supercamp, and we’d like all past South Burnett campers to come along.”<\/p>\n
