Cloyna brothers Darryl and Richard Bridges were among 20 Wide Bay students to receive grants in the latest round of the Federal Government’s Local Sporting Champions program.<\/p>\n

The boys, who attend Murgon State High School, each received $500 to assist them with attending the 2017 School Sport Australia Cross Country Championships, which were held in Tasmania in August.<\/p>\n

Murgon State High School P&C and the South Burnett Regional Council also helped fund the trip to Tasmania.<\/p>\n

The assistance seems to have paid off:\u00a0 Darryl returned home with a Gold and a Silver medal, while Richard brought home a Gold.<\/p>\n

Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien congratulated the brothers for being successful in the grants program.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWide Bay\u2019s sporting champions come from all communities in the electorate, they participate in a diverse range of sports, and they distinguish themselves in State, national and international competitions,” Mr O’Brien said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe cost of participating in these events can be quite high, especially where travel over great distances is required, so this funding will help to ease that pressure and assist them towards achieving their sporting goals.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Local Sporting Champions program supports young sportsmen and women between the ages of 12 and 18 by providing grants of $500 to help meet the costs of participating in sporting events, including travel, equipment, uniforms and accommodation.<\/p>\n
