Members of the South Burnett Community Agriculture Network were given tips on how to cut their power bills on Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n

The night, held at the Kingaroy TAFE college, was the group’s last quarterly meeting for 2017 and began with a tasting table of snacks prepared from local produce, including organic pork from Crownthorpe and cheese from Kenilworth.<\/p>\n

The meeting also coincided with National Agriculture Day, which prompted a round of applause.<\/p>\n

Guest speaker Andrew Chamberlin, from the Queensland Farmers Federation, is part of the QFF’s Energy Savers program.<\/p>\n

This program is encouraging farmers to review what electricity tariffs they are on, and how they are using electricity.<\/p>\n

He said one farm had saved $20,000 a year simply by changing tariffs … and Andrew said this was not unusual.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“You should ring up every year and check your tariffs,” he urged.<\/p>\n

He said savings could also be made by changing when power was used, changing the pressure of pumps and making certain that pumping equipment was “fit for purpose”.<\/p>\n
