Fans of local art have until December 3 to see a stunning new exhibition of works by 17 well-known South Burnett artists at the Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery.<\/p>\n

“Moonlighting In The South Burnett” opened on November 1, but held its official opening on November 10 to avoid conflicting with the Wondai Regional Art Gallery’s monthly exhibition opening night.<\/p>\n

It features works by Judith Brooks, Cherry Carroll, Sue Clark, Robyn Dower, Jenny Gemmell, Barbara Jenkins, Kay Joyce, Marion Lees, Jill Logan, Carmel Nott, Karol Oakley, Ina Patterson, Dot Rowland, Jan Scudamore, Fay Stumm, Fran Van Vegchel and Jane Walduck.<\/p>\n

The works range from oils and acrylics through to textile art and papier mache, pottery and print making.<\/p>\n

Many of the artists are acknowledged as the best in the region, and nearly all the artworks on show have never been seen at the Kingaroy gallery before.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The exhibition provides a smorgasbord of subjects and styles, and according to Kingaroy Art Team president Jenny Gemell, has drawn a very positive response ever since it went on show.<\/p>\n

The exhibition was opened with a Welcome To Country by Eric Law, who noted that art had always played an important role in Indigenous culture.<\/p>\n

“I am sure my ancestors would be looking at what is hanging on this gallery’s walls today and be smiling,” Eric told the crowd at the official opening.<\/p>\n

He was followed by Arts Portfolio chair Cr Danita Potter, who congratulated everyone involved for mounting a “stunning and delightful exhibition”.<\/p>\n

“Vincent Van Gogh said he dreamed his paintings, then painted his dreams,” Cr Potter said.<\/p>\n

“Looking at this exhibition, I think he wasn’t alone.”<\/p>\n
