Former Chief Veterinary Officer Ron Glanville has been appointed an Industry Liaison Officer by Biosecurity Queensland as part of the fight against Bovine Johne\u2019s disease (BJD).<\/p>\n

Agriculture Minister for John McVeigh said Dr Glanville would attend his first meeting with the beef industry tomorrow. <\/p>\n

\u201cDr Glanville has more than 30 years\u2019 experience as a vet in biosecurity,\u201d Mr McVeigh said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a former chief veterinary officer with the Department, Dr Glanville will play a key role in liaising with cattle producers.<\/p>\n

\u201cDr Glanville was instrumental in the eradication of Equine Influenza from Queensland in 2008.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr McVeigh said the BJD testing process was well underway. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe first batch of priority samples has been collected and the laboratory has commenced testing. We are expecting more samples to arrive today to be processed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe current BJD testing process is highly complex and a number of concurrent tests must be carried out to effectively test for BJD which can take 12 weeks or more if complications arise. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe first round of results is expected to be received around mid-March 2013.\u201d<\/p>\n

Biosecurity Queensland sent risk assessment documents to affected producers on Friday to help them prepare for on-property assessments. <\/p>\n
