Ten junior teams and took part in the inaugural Kingaroy Futsal Cup<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

December 17, 2012<\/strong><\/p>\n

The inaugural Kingaroy Futsal Cup, played at the Kingaroy High School Sports Auditorium on Saturday, attracted teams from Bundaberg, Hervey Bay and Maryborough as well as from all over the South Burnett.<\/p>\n

More than 100 players turned up for the carnival.<\/p>\n

Fourteen teams – including 10 junior teams – played a round-robin competition.<\/p>\n

“It was a futsal feast ending in a senior finals match between two local teams Nanango and Rustixs (the Queensland Country 16s team),” spokeswoman Debbie Ovens said.<\/p>\n

“It was a hard-fought final with both teams going goal-for-goal with great counterattacks and scrambling defence from both sides.<\/p>\n

“Nanango just climbed over Rustixs with minutes to go, winning 7-5.<\/p>\n

“Another stand-out Kingaroy team was Unreal Madrid (Sam Gray, Josh Harley, Alex Firman, Callum Neumann and Joseph Copas) who cruised though all their games undefeated.”<\/p>\n

Debbie said the idea for the competition was originally just to have fun but it had proven so popular that it could become an annual event.<\/p>\n

She said she would like to especially thank local business people who donated and helped support the first Kingaroy Futsal Cup and for all their help in fundraising to send junior players to the Futsal Nationals which will be played in Sydney in the New Year.<\/p>\n

Eighteen young South Burnett futsal players will be heading off to Sydney in a fortnight to compete in the national championships.<\/strong><\/p>\n

They are Pacey Clegg, Joseph Copas, Cassie Firman, Laura Grey, Gary Honhold, Hayley Hunter, Lachlan Hurt, Chris Janz, Danielle Janz, Lucy Montgomery and Bella Neil<\/p>\n

Sam Gray, Shane Hall, Reuban Vanderberg-Dodt, Ryan Mooney, Bailey Raines, Zac Strauss and Luke Vanderberg will be competing as the Kingaroy Rustixs Qld 16s Boys team.<\/p>\n
