Judge Patrick Burns congratulates Darryl Jones on winning the Feature Art Prize in the Kingaroy Concerned Citizens Group’s 385 Alive! art competition<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Kingaroy Concerned Citizens Group (KCCG) concluded their 385 Alive! art protest recently with an exhibition of entries and prize-giving.<\/p>\n

KCCG spokesman John Dalton said the competition to record the area around Moreton Resources’ proposed Kingaroy coal mine near Coolabunia had drawn about 250 entries.<\/p>\n

The competition had 24 sections, but three sections drew no entries and no prizes were awarded in a fourth section.<\/p>\n

Darryl Jones won the main painting prize, with a painting of a farm gate echoing the shape of a crucifix.<\/p>\n

Anneloes Warrener won the main photography prize with a dreamlike photograph of a small boy dwarfed by magnificent trees,<\/p>\n

Apart from adults, the competition also drew a very good response from school children, with two sections for Prep to Year 6 and five sections for high school students attracting large numbers of entries.<\/p>\n

All entries were exhibited at the Maryknoll Centre at St Mary’s Catholic College for the afternoon.<\/p>\n

Judging of entries was carried out by Ben Stoffl, Patrick Burns and Darren Schmidt.<\/p>\n

Section 1 – The Collection (Prep to Year 6)<\/strong>
\nUse art or photography to record a collection of all the things people can eat or drink that are produced around 385.<\/p>\n
