Labor candidate for Nanango Ben Rankin has claimed a key LNP promise for the South and North Burnett regions was already in the pipeline under the Palaszczuk Government.

On Monday, Deputy Opposition Leader and Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington announced that an LNP State Government would spend $35 million for a new bridge to cross the Boyne River Bridge, about 20km south of Mundubbera.

The cost would also involve a significant realignment of the Mundubbera-Durong Road.

However, Mr Rankin said that under Labor the bridge had already reached design stage with delivery of the project planned.

He said that just last month Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey had been quoted in the media saying the State Government was working to replace the bridge.

“The proposed design will replace the existing low-level, timber bridge with a new high-level, reinforced concrete bridge on a straighter alignment,” Mr Bailey had said.

“The design will improve the bridge’s flood immunity to withstand a one-in-50 year flood event, maintaining connectivity on this important freight route.”
