They may have been a few days early, but that didn’t stop the Yarraman Historical Society celebrating Halloween last Friday night.<\/p>\n

The Society turned their monthly dinner at Heritage House into a celebration of all things spooky and set the tables for more than 40 guests, many of whom dressed specially for the occasion.<\/p>\n

There were witches aplenty at the bar – along with the odd vampire, ghoul and lost soul – and many of those wearing masks kept them on until dinner was served.<\/p>\n

The Historical Society\u2019s volunteers had worked overtime to decorate Heritage House\u2019s dining hall for the occasion.<\/p>\n

The walls were adorned with fluorescent skeletons, miniature witches on broomsticks and an odd 3D portrait of what looked like two female vampires deep in conversation.<\/p>\n

While the Society’s \u201ckitchen witches\u201d kept themselves busy brewing up dreamy food, guests got to relax to an upbeat mix of toe-tapping music provided by Sue McInnes.<\/p>\n

Naturally, some guests warily checked under the tablecloths, behind their seats and around doors to make certain there were no hobgoblins lurking about.<\/p>\n

But at the end of the night a head-count showed no one had been taken in the interval between mains and dessert.<\/p>\n

And hopefully, none fell victim to zombies as they wended their way back home.<\/p>\n

The Society holds more normal dinners on the fourth Friday of each month as a fundraiser to help meet Heritage House’s running costs.<\/p>\n

For a small fee, guests at these licensed functions get to enjoy a main and a dessert, plus live music and good company.<\/p>\n

The monthly dinners kick off at 6:00pm, but to help plan the catering you’ll need to phone (07) 4163-8111 to make a booking beforehand.<\/p>\n
