Farmers, community groups and industry groups are being encouraged to apply for grants to protect and improve the condition of soil, vegetation and biodiversity and help agricultural systems to adapt to change.<\/p>\n

Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O\u2019Brien said on Thursday applications for the Smart Farms Small Grants – part of the National Landcare Program – are now open.<\/p>\n

“Farmers understand the importance of protecting and caring for the land so they can pass on productive and healthy farms to future generations,” Mr O\u2019Brien said.<\/p>\n

“Environmental groups and land managers value the National Landcare Program and its achievements.<\/p>\n

“Many people over many years have participated in Landcare program and the Federal Government is extending the opportunity for more farmers and community groups to apply for grants to help develop the next generation of smart farms.”<\/p>\n

Smart Farms Small Grants will provide grants of between $5,000 and $100,000 to develop and extend new tools, methods and technology for farmers to continue to be at the forefront of land management.<\/p>\n

Round One applications opened on Round October 24 and will close on December 7, 2017.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Farmers care for their land and I encourage them and other locals to apply for funding through the Smart Farms programs,\u201d Mr O’Brien said.<\/p>\n
