Kilkivan will soon get a Men’s Shed after the project received a $16,362 grant through round three of the Federal Government\u2019s Stronger Communities Programme, Member for Wide Bay Llew O\u2019Brien announced on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

“The Kilkivan Men\u2019s Shed will offer community facilities for woodwork, metalwork, first aid and other pastimes, giving people in the Kilkivan community somewhere to belong,” Mr O\u2019Brien said.<\/p>\n

“The grant will allow the Men\u2019s Shed to offer assistance to seniors as well as undertaking activities to maintain the Health Centre, repair a railway carriage, and other projects.<\/p>\n

“Men\u2019s Sheds across Australia are a valuable tool in creating strong community connections, and reducing the risk of preventable health issues that are related to isolation.<\/p>\n

“This funding will ensure the people of Kilkivan have a place to learn new skills and build new friendships.”<\/p>\n

The funding follows last week’s announcement the Kilkivan Men’s Shed will receive $4842 for the purchase of an air compressor, compound mitre saw, metal cut off saw, combo kit, welder inverter, orbital and belt sanders, first aid kit, first aid and safety courses from the National Shed Development Program.<\/p>\n

The Stronger Communities Programme is designed to improve the resilience of communities by providing capital grants for small projects of between $5000 and $20,000.<\/p>\n

Up to $150,000 is available in each electorate per year, and the grants are available to not-for-profit organisations and local councils.<\/p>\n

Applications for the latest round of the program have recently closed and are now being assessed.<\/p>\n
