Police Minister Mark Ryan and Acting Deputy Police Commissioner Bob Gee on Friday viewed some of the 16,000 guns Queenslanders have handed in as part of the national gun amnesty.<\/p>\n

Mr Ryan said the success of the amnesty showed Queenslanders were overwhelmingly firm in their backing of strict gun control to keep the community safe.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe quantity of firearms surrendered has been very positive. It has shown Queenslanders want our state to be a safe place, and the Palaszczuk Government is committed to ensuring that is a reality,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

From July 1 to September 30, a total of 16,126 firearms were surrendered for registration, safekeeping or destruction.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Acting Deputy Commissioner Gee said he was also pleased with the response to the gun amnesty.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis amnesty will help keep our community safe by ensuring those firearms don\u2019t fall into the wrong hands,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAny firearm in the wrong hands can have tragic consequences.\u201d<\/p>\n
