The face of Kingaroy will begin to change in 2018-19 after the South Burnett Regional Council voted this week to invest $253,000 into planning Kingaroy’s CBD upgrade.<\/p>\n

At Wednesday’s meeting, council commissioned JFP Urban Consultants Pty Ltd (JFP) to start civil and landscape design for the Kingaroy Town Revitalisation Project.<\/p>\n

JFP are the company that designed Nanango’s CBD upgrade.<\/p>\n

The Kingaroy CBD project will include Haly Street, George Street, the rail corridor, Kingaroy Street, Alford Street, Short Street, Markwell Street, Youngman Street and Glendon Street.<\/p>\n

JFP will review elements in the target area including roads, footpaths, landscaping, pedestrian crossings, pram ramps, car parking arrangements, traffic movements, road medians, road furniture, signage, lighting and open space furniture.<\/p>\n

The company will also look at the option of linking a proposed George Street carpark to the existing King Street carpark.<\/p>\n

The aim is to make Kingaroy’s CBD a safer, more inviting and visually rewarding place for business to be conducted while allowing residents and visitors to enjoy what is on offer there, a Council spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

Design work and community engagement will be carried out this financial year through a series of consultation workshops, with the final delivery of a detailed design package expected in April-May 2018. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Construction work on the project will be carried out over a number of financial years from 2018\/19 onwards.<\/p>\n

Mayor Keith Campbell said the Council had wanted to reinvigorate Kingaroy’s CBD for a long time.<\/p>\n

“It’s become tired and work needs to be done to return its vibrancy and attractiveness,” the Mayor said.<\/p>\n

“It is important for residents that their town is presented in an attractive manner.<\/p>\n

“With tourism being a big part of our economic plan, it’s also important that people have a lasting, positive memory of Kingaroy.”<\/p>\n
