Taabinga Rotary handed over the first of their cheques from the proceeds of this year’s Bookarama last week … a handy $1000 to the South Burnett Pantry in Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

The Pantry provides an opportunity for people on low incomes to buy groceries at a subsidised price.<\/p>\n

Every Friday about 75 of the region\u2019s residents come along to take home the necessities of life.<\/p>\n

They sign in, receive a number and wait until it is their turn to inspect what is on the shelves.<\/p>\n

There are unemployed men and women, young couples, the elderly, pensioners, farmers and even some small business people.<\/p>\n

They pay $40 for a weekly shop of meat, bread, fruit and vegetables, milk and eggs, frozen goods, dry goods, personal products and toiletries.<\/p>\n

Taabinga Rotary secretary Kimberley McCullagh said the other groups which will be supported from this year’s Bookarama are AgForce Queensland, the Proston Men\u2019s Shed and LifeFlight.<\/p>\n
