\u201cEach one must teach one\u201d was the message Leaf Bennet handed to the Cherbourg State School Year 7 students at their graduation ceremony on Monday night.<\/p>\n

The Queensland Reds Indigenous Program Manager had this motto drummed into him as a boy by his great-grandmother.<\/p>\n

He said she had no formal education but yet she spoke three languages and four dialects and taught herself to do many things.\u00a0She\u00a0was walked to Cherbourg Mission at a younger age than the students before him.<\/p>\n

\u201cEducation is the key,\u201d Mr Bennet said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I never learned how to read and write I\u2019d have never conquered the things I have.\u201d<\/p>\n

The former youth delegate to the United Nations\u00a0congratulated the parents, family, school and community members who supported the children\u2019s education. \u00a0Almost 100 people were present on the night.<\/p>\n

Mr Bennett asked the children to make the most of high school as they would make many friends and learn more than ever before if they made the most of the opportunities given to them.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ll make relationships there that are really important,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cRespect those relationships and, more importantly, respect yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n
