Plans for a 130ha solar farm to be built 3km east of Kingaroy have been submitted to the South Burnett Regional Council.<\/p>\n

The project, on a large block at the corner of Kingaroy-Barkers Creek Road and Redmans Road, could produce enough energy to power 15,000 homes.<\/p>\n

NSW company Terrain Solar plans to start construction of the solar farm in mid-2018 if it gains the necessary Council and State Government approvals.<\/p>\n

The company has several similar projects underway at Moama, Corowa, Bomen and Molong in NSW, and Warwick in Queensland, all of which are also expected to begin construction in 2018.<\/p>\n

Terrain Solar says the Kingaroy project could generate up to 100 jobs during its construction phase.<\/strong><\/p>\n

There would also be some ongoing direct and indirect employment opportunities once the solar farm has been brought into operation.<\/p>\n

Plans presented to Council show the project would include a substation, inverters, battery storage and an internal access road.<\/p>\n

The facility would have an expected lifespan of between 30 and 50 years.<\/p>\n

Plans for the solar farm will be open for public consultation before the Council votes on the project, a process expected to take between three and four months.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The State Government would also have to approve the project before it went ahead.<\/p>\n

Terrain Solar’s project is the second solar farm proposed for the region.<\/p>\n

In April this year, SolarQ lodged a development application with Gympie Regional Council for a $2 billion-plus solar farm to be built near Woolooga that could power up to 127,000 homes.<\/p>\n
