Queensland Labor officially confirmed on Friday what Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk told the media during her recent visit to Kingaroy … Yarraman resident Ben Rankin will be the Labor candidate for the State seat of Nanango at the upcoming State election.<\/p>\n

The small business owner admits he is not the “typical” political candidate.<\/p>\n

\u201cLike a lot of people in the bush, I\u2019ve worked in a load of different jobs, from turf farm labourer, to butcher shops, to truck driving, to warehousing,” Mr Rankin said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat broad range of experience has given me a good handle on the challenges facing people today in regional towns \u2013 things like the need for more secure work, better health services and well-staffed State schools.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said he had lived in the South Burnett for the past six years, after making a \u201ctree-change\u201d from the Redcliffe area.<\/p>\n

Ben lives in Yarraman with his wife and their three children, and is the registered primary caregiver for his ASD-diagnosed six-year-old son.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He said he understands first-hand the various pressures facing regional families.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m certainly not your typical political candidate,\u201d Mr Rankin said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I reckon that\u2019s a good thing out here in Nanango.”<\/p>\n

Premier Palaszczuk said Ben Rankin would be a genuine working-class voice for Nanango.<\/p>\n

\u201cBen has the diversity of life experience to be a great local champion for the South Burnett,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
