The ABC is looking for applicants from regional areas for the inaugural Darren Osborne regional science cadetship.<\/p>\n

The journalism cadetship is named in honour of the ABC’s “science news geek”, who died of brain cancer in 2015.<\/p>\n

Aspiring science reporters currently based in regional Australia have been invited to apply.<\/p>\n

ABC News Director Gaven Morris said the cadetship was looking to find someone with Darren\u2019s qualities as a science journalist and communicator.<\/p>\n

\u201cDarren could take science and space topics that might otherwise be baffling and make them exciting and interesting to the broadest possible audiences \u2013 always with a sparkle in his eyes and an enthusiastic smile,\u201d Mr Morris said.<\/p>\n

\u201cA passion for science, a dedication to quality journalism, a love for the ABC and its audiences and outstanding integrity \u2013 these were Darren\u2019s qualities and those we\u2019re seeking in the winner of the cadetship that bears his name.\u201d<\/p>\n

The cadetship is an “early career” opportunity for someone with a passion for science and an interest in telling stories that connect with Australians, about anything from astronomy to zoology.<\/p>\n

The successful cadet will spend six months working within RN\u2019s Science Unit in Ultimo, developing an ability to create high quality, compelling content for a variety of ABC audio and digital platforms, including the ABC News website.<\/p>\n

ABC RN is seeking applications from people currently residing in regional Australia and looking to relocate to Sydney for six months.<\/p>\n

The ABC will contribute towards relocation costs as well as two weeks accommodation to help the successful applicant settle into Sydney.<\/p>\n

Applications are open until Sunday October 29, 2017.<\/p>\n
