Nanango’s Local Ambulance Committee celebrated Ambulance Week with a special Open Day at the station – and an opportunity to check out Nanango’s brand new ambulance.<\/p>\n

The Mercedes-Benz unit had only arrived the day before, which made it extra special for the station.<\/p>\n

This year’s Ambulance Week marked the 125th birthday of the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS).<\/p>\n

What we now know as the QAS was established on September 12, 1892, with the formation of the City Ambulance Transport Brigade in Brisbane.<\/p>\n

The annual Ambulance Week is always an opportunity for the public to thank ambulance staff for what they do.<\/p>\n

Nanango LAC Secretary Ann Black said the day was also an opportunity for local residents to find out what the LAC does (they are volunteers<\/strong><\/a> who support their local ambulance station in various ways, including raising CPR awareness).<\/p>\n

The LAC organised a sausage sizzle at the Nanango station as well as giveaways and a money board.<\/p>\n

Ann said there were currently five people on the LAC but they were always looking for more to join.<\/p>\n

In the 73 years the ambulance has operated in Nanango, there have been only six LAC chairmen and nine Officers-in-Charge.<\/p>\n

Currently, there are nine paramedics plus the Officer-in-Charge based at Nanango, with three Mercedes-Benz ambulances and a Toyota 4WD.<\/p>\n

On the same day, \u00a0the Murgon LAC hosted an Open Day at the Murgon Ambulance Station.<\/strong><\/p>\n

There \u00a0was a sausage sizzle here, too, plus\u00a0displays of ambulances and equipment, CPR and defibrillator demonstrations, and free activity books for children.<\/p>\n
