{"id":191120,"date":"2017-09-26T13:08:17","date_gmt":"2017-09-26T03:08:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=191120"},"modified":"2020-08-13T16:02:56","modified_gmt":"2020-08-13T06:02:56","slug":"five-trails-to-meet-at-kilkivan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2017\/09\/26\/five-trails-to-meet-at-kilkivan\/","title":{"rendered":"Five Trails To Meet At Kilkivan"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_43996\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-43996\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/20130911kilkivanhorseride.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-43996\" title=\"20130911kilkivanhorseride\" src=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/20130911kilkivanhorseride.jpg\" alt=\"Kilkivan Great Horse Ride\" width=\"740\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/20130911kilkivanhorseride.jpg 620w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/20130911kilkivanhorseride-300x186.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-43996\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Kilkivan Great Horse Ride can attract hundreds and hundreds of riders\u00a0<br \/>(Photo: kilkivangreathorseride.com.au)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>September 26, 2017<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Kilkivan Great Horse Ride will be held again this weekend, later than usual due to long-term drought in the region.<\/p>\n<p>The annual event, which began in 1986, \u00a0is usually run in April and can attract up to 1100 horses and riders who converge at the end of their rides for a spectacular parade down Kilkivan&#8217;s main street.<\/p>\n<p>It has been held every year &#8230; except when droughts, floods and Equine Influenza have intervened.<\/p>\n<p>This year riders can choose from four one-day trails and one two-day trail which will all converge on Kilkivan on Saturday afternoon:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The two-day <strong>Widgee Mountain \/ Hanging Rock Trail<\/strong> which covers 65km over two days, starting at 7:00am on Friday at Widgee Showgrounds and overnighting back at Widgee<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Hanging Rock Trail<\/strong>\u00a0which leaves at 6:00am on Saturday from the Widgee Showgrounds and will cover 35km<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Kurandah Trail<\/strong>\u00a0which leaves at 7:00am on Saturday from Kilkivan Showgrounds and will cover 35km<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Cave Hill Trail<\/strong>\u00a0which leaves at 12:30pm on Saturday from Kilkivan Showgrounds and will cover 15km<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Oakview Carriage Drive<\/strong>\u00a0which leaves at 9:00am on Saturday from Weier Oval and will cover 25km<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Grand Parade, where the riders travel down Bligh Street, is scheduled for 4:00pm.<\/p>\n<p>Kilkivan visitors who aren&#8217;t taking part in the various trail rides will be able to enjoy street entertainment and street stalls in Bligh Street \u00a0from 11:00am on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>There will also be entertainment at the Kilkivan Showgrounds over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday night, a bar and barbecue will be running with free entertainment.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday night, \u00a0a bar and food will be available from 5:00pm, and from 6:30pm there will be a free campfire concert with Tom Grady and Muddy Flats plus a bucking bull and jumping castle.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, a Bush Poets Breakfast at the showgrounds will kick off the last day at 7:00am, followed by a Pony Novelties Fun Day from 8:30am hosted by the Kilkivan Pony Club.<\/p>\n<p>The bar at the showgrounds will remain open on Sunday night for visitors to enjoy watching the NRL Grand Final.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>External link: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kilkivangreathorseride.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kilkivan Great Horse Ride website<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Kilkivan Great Horse Ride will be held again this weekend, later than usual due to long-term drought in the region.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":20,"featured_media":43996,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[3,10],"tags":[168,1130],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
