Community Grants Program

September 20, 2017

The South Burnett Regional Council has slashed funding to community groups by more than half in the first round of its new-look Community Grants Program.

Communities portfolio chair Cr Danita Potter told Wednesday’s Council meeting the program had received requests for $125,952.88 in funding, but only approved $58,449.55.

The reason for the difference was that not all applicants received the amounts they asked for, Cr Potter said.

In all, 50 community organisations submitted applications to the funding round – one-sixth fewer than the number of applications the Council received two years ago, when it handed out $113,500 – and only 39 were approved.

The biggest winner of the funding round was the Wondai Country Festival, which received $10,000 under the Regionally Significant Event sponsorship program.

Regionally Significant Events are required to submit a detailed three-year business plan and annual progress reports to Council to secure three-year funding of $10,000 (first year), $7500 (second year) and $5000 (third year).

The successful first round applicants were:

Public Liability Insurance

Durong Community Hall –
