Ex-service organisations and community groups are being encouraged to apply for funding for projects that mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.<\/p>\n

Federal Member for Wide Bay, Llew O\u2019Brien, said the Department Of Veterans’ Affairs is seeking expressions of interest for local Armistice commemorative projects for 2018.<\/p>\n

“Funding from $3,000 to $50,000 is available to support local community projects and activities that commemorate the end of the First World War, or remember Australian service men and women from all conflicts,” Mr O\u2019Brien said.<\/p>\n

Up to $50,000 in total is available to organisations in each Federal electorate.<\/p>\n

“Next year, Australians will pause and reflect on the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Australia\u2019s population was less than five million people, yet 416,809 men enlisted, of whom more than 60,000 were killed and 156,000 wounded, gassed, or taken prisoner.<\/p>\n

“Australia\u2019s involvement in the First World War began when Britain declared war on Germany on 4 August 1914.<\/p>\n

“Every year on Anzac Day we mark anniversary of day the Australian Imperial Force landed at Gallipoli in Turkey. It is the day we honour the service and sacrifice of every Australian who served in the First World War and all those who have subsequently served.<\/p>\n

“I encourage groups to send in project proposals for the Armistice Centenary Grants Program to mark this important milestone in Australia\u2019s history.”<\/p>\n

The expressions of interest will be considered by a local committee and successful organisations will be invited to apply for funding.<\/p>\n

Expressions of interest should be emailed to Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien, Member for Maranoa David Littleproud or Member for Flynn Ken O’Dowd by 5:00pm on October 13.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Organisations selected to apply for funding can submit their applications between November 11 and February 28.<\/p>\n
