United Petroleum will cut the price of E10 fuel by 6c per litre from Tuesday as part of a push to increase the uptake of biofuel.<\/p>\n

However, the discounted rate will only apply for a limited time.<\/p>\n

The move was jointly announced by State Treasurer Curtis Pitt and United Petroleum CEO Gary Brinkworth.<\/p>\n

“United Petroleum already offers discounted regular unleaded fuel right across Queensland, so this is another welcome move,” Mr Pitt said.<\/p>\n

“E10 is a Queensland-made biofuel and now Queensland motorists will get a special Queensland-only discount price.”<\/p>\n

Mr Pitt said Queensland’s shift to a clean energy economy requires the State’s fuel industry to meet sales targets for bio-based petrol such as E10 and bio-based diesel.<\/p>\n

United Petroleum CEO Gary Brinkworth said the company\u2019s ongoing investment in the biofuels industry was creating jobs and adding value to Queensland’s agricultural resources.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“We took the decision that the best way we could support the State Government\u2019s biofuels mandate was by taking direct action to encourage motorists to make the switch,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Since the Queensland Government launched their E10 OK campaign earlier this year, there has been some lingering apathy amongst consumers about changing their fuel buying patterns.”<\/p>\n

Mr Brinkworth said fuel ratings such as octane didn’t mean much to the average consumer and while “bio” sounded like something positive, it hadn\u2019t been a strong enough motivator by itself.<\/p>\n

“We know that once consumers try E10 they\u2019ll enjoy the extra zip and cleaner fuel system in their cars.<\/p>\n

“We\u2019re sure that drastically reducing the price of E10 clearly demonstrates that we are playing our part in fuelling growth for regional Queensland and creating a cleaner environment for the next generation.<\/p>\n

“We believe that people have been thinking a bit more about E10, and we now want them to try it for themselves.”<\/p>\n

United Petroleum operates a bio-refinery at Dalby.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is Australia\u2019s first grain-to-ethanol production facility and manufactures ethanol for United\u2019s E10 and E85 Fuels.<\/p>\n
