The Queensland Farmers Federation (QFF) will hold a one-day workshop in Kingaroy next February to help South Burnett farm businesses reduce risks and increase efficiency and compliance.<\/p>\n

The workshop is part of a series of 17 similar workshops the QFF will hold around the state between September 12 and February 21.<\/p>\n

The Workplace Essentials workshops are being funded by the Queensland Government and coordinated through the Queensland Agriculture Workforce Network.<\/p>\n

They will focus on providing farm employers and team leaders with practical information and resources to improve their workplace health and safety and people management skills.<\/p>\n

QFF President Stuart Armitage is encouraging farm businesses to take advantage of the subsidised training, which is specifically tailored for farm employers and employees.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“There are about 1700 workplace injuries in agriculture per year. This is unacceptable and why we want to help farm businesses get up-to-speed on their safety obligations,” Mr Armitage said.<\/p>\n

“It is important that all levels of farm leadership are aware of their obligations and the practices that can be adopted to better control risks and prevent future workplace accidents.<\/p>\n

“These workshops are a clear example of industry proactively addressing sector wide workplace health and safety issues.”<\/p>\n

The last round of Workplace Essentials workshops, which focused on employment management practices and compliance, attracted more than 230 participants statewide.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Feedback indicated that farm employers wanted the next series to focus not only on workplace health and safety but also supervisory skills,” Mr Armitage said.<\/p>\n

“These elements are all covered in the upcoming workshops, which aim to provide farm frontline staff with a much clearer understanding of workplace health and safety obligations regulations, supervisor responsibilities, performance management, and how to managing bullying and conflict constructively,” said Mr Armitage.<\/p>\n

“Attending these workshops should enhance management capacity, which leads to better bottom line results, so it should be considered an investment in the future of your business.”<\/p>\n

The Kingaroy workshop will be held on Tuesday, February 20.<\/p>\n
