The State Government will introduce legislation to remove the requirement for customers to complete application forms for a number of common Transport and Main Roads (TMR) services.<\/p>\n

The decision comes near the end of a three-month “paperless” trial for services including registration and licence renewals at Toowoomba’s TMR customer service centres.<\/p>\n

“So far the trial has been a great success with customers and staff alike saying it has made their experience faster and easier,” Acting Main Roads Minister Dr Steven Miles said on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Dr Miles said the reforms would allow TMR to adapt and grow in line with modern technology.<\/p>\n

“With technology rapidly evolving, we want to ensure the outdated obligation to complete a form won’t stand in the way of adopting new technologies as soon as possible,” he said.<\/p>\n

The amendment bill will also make a number of changes to the regulation of dangerous goods, transport of commercial vessel rules and driver authorisation.<\/p>\n

As part of the changes, the government will make proof-of-age cards available to 15 year olds for the first time.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“By opening up proof-of-age cards to this age group, we\u2019re moving with the times to make it easier for young Queenslanders to open bank accounts, get phone contracts, enrol in TAFE and tertiary courses and get employment,” Deputy Premier Jackie Trad said.<\/p>\n

A proof-of-age card will cost $66.65 and be valid for 10 years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
