At the Wondai Art Gallery more items are being donated for Christmas .. this time presents for children to be distributed by Graham House in Murgon.<\/p>\n

Gallery curator Elaine Madill has erected a Christmas tree and is inviting visitors to leave presents.<\/p>\n

“Just mark the gift as boy or girl, along with the age group,” she said.\u00a0“We plan to make this a yearly support for the children of our area.”<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

The spirit of giving is strong in the South Burnett at Christmas time …<\/p>\n

Year 6 students at St Mary’s Catholic College today handed over a ute-load of non-perishable foodstuffs to be distributed to local residents by the St Vincent de Paul Society.<\/p>\n

Teacher Scott Collier told the school’s last assembly for the year that the pupils had approached him and asked him what they could do to make a difference this Christmas.<\/p>\n

“They really took this project on,” he said.<\/p>\n

“They put up their hands and just ran with it.”<\/p>\n

Every Wednesday the Year 6s went around the school collecting non-perishable foodstuffs from fellow students and teachers.<\/p>\n

They even made a video to promote the project.<\/p>\n

Local St Vincent de Paul Society representative Peter Janz said he was “blown away” to accept the donations.<\/p>\n

“I am amazed by the efforts of Grade 6 and on behalf of the St Vincent de Paul Society I would like to thank them,” he said.<\/p>\n

“This will assist so many people and give them a little bit more happiness at this time of the year.”<\/p>\n

He also thanked the students’ parents and teachers who had donated the tinned and packaged food.<\/p>\n

“Our community is very lucky to have such people,” he said.<\/p>\n
