Mineral processing company Sedgman has secured a $6 million contract with Stanwell Corporation to build a tailings “dewatering facility” at Meandu Mine.<\/p>\n

The facility will be located at the coal handling and preparation plant.<\/p>\n

Sedgman has a long involvement with Meandu; the company was involved in the design and commissioning of the original coal processing plant in 1986.<\/p>\n

The new facility has become necessary because the existing tailings dam is approaching full capacity.<\/p>\n

It will use centrifuges to reduce the moisture content in the tailings which will allow Stanwell to dispose of the fine residue alongside coarse matter rejected from the plant.<\/p>\n

“New methods for handling and storing tailings are evolving worldwide, and Sedgman works actively with technology providers to improve the economics of these solutions,”\u00a0Sedgman managing director Michael Carretta said.<\/p>\n
