The 20th annual ABC Radio Heywire competition is now open, calling on people aged 16-22 to share a story about life in regional Australia for the chance to win a spot at the Heywire Regional Youth Summit in Canberra.<\/p>\n

Entrants are asked to tell the nation about an aspect of life from their part of Australia, in any format including writing, video, photos or audio.<\/p>\n

Forty winners will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to attend the Heywire Summit.<\/p>\n

The South Burnett has produced a Heywire winner in recent years …\u00a0Kirsten Butters, from Maidenwell, was a winner in 2015 with a series of photographs depicting the music scene in regional Australia.<\/strong><\/p>\n

ABC Regional Director Fiona Reynolds said the Heywire competition provided a unique opportunity for young people to make a difference.<\/p>\n

Heywire provides an opportunity for young Australians in regional areas to express their opinions on radio, on the internet and to politicians.<\/p>\n

\u201cHeywire is a powerful way for young people to be heard across the nation, through the ABC and in Canberra,” she said.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s also an unparalleled opportunity for them to drive lasting change in their communities.\u201d<\/p>\n

Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce said regional communities underpinned Australia’s national identity and way of life.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cMost Australians know that to be true, but not the reasons why. If you\u2019re young and from the bush, you can change all that,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Get involved in Heywire. Tell your story. It matters. And it\u2019s one we can all be proud of.\u201d<\/p>\n
