Saints kept Cougars on the run during their clash at Kingaroy<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

South Burnett Saints are still sitting behind University Cougars on the Darling Downs AFL ladder despite beating the competition leaders twice in less than a month.<\/p>\n

It was a close game from the starting whistle, but Saints proved their worth again in front of their hometown fans, leading by a whisker at each change.<\/p>\n

The celebrations at the end of the game at Lyle Vidler Oval were much deserved.<\/p>\n

Defence was strong by both teams in the first quarter, with the Saints leading 2.7 (19) to\u00a02.1 (13) at the break.<\/p>\n

At half-time, South Burnett still had a narrow lead which could have been even greater except for some missed opportunities: 5.12 (42) to\u00a06.4 (40).<\/p>\n

It was neck-and-neck in the third quarter which each side kicking four goals.<\/p>\n

South Burnett started the last quarter just three points in front,<\/p>\n

The game was in the balance right up to the final siren, with each side peppering the posts with kicks; Saints finished best, kicking six goals to five.<\/p>\n

The final score was South Burnett Saints 15.17 (107) to University Cougars\u00a015.8 (98).<\/p>\n

South Burnett goal kickers were Keegan Wright (4), \u00a0Kieran Askin (3), Joseph Amery (2), Mitchell Francis (2), Nathan Trace (2) and Jordan Pressnell (2).<\/p>\n

The Saints will take on the Toowoomba Tigers on Saturday at Toowoomba.<\/p>\n

The Saints’ Women’s team had the measure of Lockyer-Warwick in their game played at Warwick on Saturday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The final score was 10.20 (80) to 0.0 (0).<\/p>\n

South Burnett goal kickers were\u00a0Tamika Schick (5), Kayla Smith (2), Reanna Fenton, Natalie Fenton and Ashleigh Irvine.<\/p>\n
