A Kumbia man who started raising money for cancer research after his wife died from lymphoma added another $5000 to the cause on Saturday night.<\/p>\n

Brian Fawcett’s latest fundraising effort was a Big Night Out for the Leukaemia Foundation held at the Kingaroy Cricket and Sports Club.<\/p>\n

A crowd of more than 100 packed the club’s verandah to enjoy dinner, dessert and live entertainment; test their good fortune with the lucky door prize and raffles, and bid for items at a big charity auction.<\/p>\n

The highlight of the evening was a Shave for a Cure, with volunteers either lopping their locks or having them coloured to raise funds.<\/p>\n

The event was supported by the Kingaroy Cricket and Sports Club, who donated their venue.<\/p>\n

Brian said he would also like to thank Anderssons Fruit Market, who supplied most of the food for the dinner, and Margaret Golinski, who did the cooking.<\/p>\n

“I’d also really like to thank the many businesses who donated prizes for the auction, Tim and Esther from the Cricket Club and all the volunteers who helped on the night,” he said.<\/p>\n

Brian was also full of praise for the brave souls who volunteered to be shaved or coloured.<\/p>\n

“One of our volunteers is only 16 and she begged me to be allowed to do it. Not only did she follow through, but she raised a fair bit of money through sponsorship as well,” he said.<\/p>\n

Another highlight was the “donation” of a beard by Kevin Finglas, which was purchased (and shaved) by Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington.<\/p>\n

Brian was a little disappointed that some people who booked tickets did not show up but that won’t stop him from holding another event next year.<\/p>\n

He has already booked the Kumbia Hotel for November 23, 2013.<\/p>\n

“They’ve donated the use of all the non-bar areas of the hotel, as well as offered free accommodation for representatives from the Leukaemia Foundation,” Brian said.<\/p>\n

“It should be a really great night out.”<\/p>\n

Brian raised $6500 when he held a similar Big Night Out at the Kumbia Hotel last December.<\/p>\n
