Sunshine Coast artist Jandamarra Cadd – who has twice exhibited at the Wondai Art Gallery – has submitted a portrait of actor Jack Charles into this year’s Archibald Prize.<\/p>\n

The portrait is in Jandamarra’s “hyper-realistic” style which has impressed so many art lovers in the South Burnett over the years.<\/p>\n

Uncle Jack Charles is an Indigenous actor who is currently starring in the ABC sci-fi drama Cleverman, but his career stretches back to 1970 when he made his debut on the stage in Melbourne.<\/p>\n

This is the second time that Jandamarra has submitted a painting of Uncle Jack to the Archibald, however his 2016 entry was markedly different to this year’s approach.<\/p>\n

In previous years, he has also put forward portraits of Mick Dodson and Bob Randall.<\/p>\n

In 2014, his portrait of singer Archie Roach was named an Archibald \u00a0finalist.<\/p>\n

This year, Jandamarra is also featuring in another way at the Archibald … he is the subject of another artist\u2019s Archibald entry.<\/p>\n

Sunshine Coast artist Leigh Hooker has submitted her depiction of Jandamarra to the competition.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am so used to being on the other side of the canvas. It is quite surreal to be represented on it,” Jandamarra said.<\/p>\n

Archibald Finalists will be announced on July 20 with the winner announced on July 28 at the Art Gallery of NSW.<\/p>\n
