Work has begun on a $7 million project to upgrade the New England Highway near Cooyar.<\/p>\n

Passing lanes will be built 6.5km and 2.5km south of Cooyar, and the major Oakey-Cooyar Road T-intersection at Wutul will be upgraded.<\/p>\n

Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said on Tuesday the 1.3km long northbound and southbound passing lanes would improve traffic flow and safety.<\/p>\n

The works will be undertaken by RoadTek and will include the extension or replacement of existing drains and alterations to private entrances affected by the overtaking lanes.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe ask motorists to be patient while these important works are taking place,\u201d Mr Bailey said.<\/p>\n

\u201cReduced speed limits, directional signage and traffic control will be in place during the works to guide drivers along the highway.<\/p>\n

\u201cMotorists should obey directional signage and take care while travelling through the area.\u201d<\/p>\n

Construction is expected to be completed by February 2018, weather permitting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
