Kilkivan’s old fire station will be replaced over the next two years with a new $1.8 million facility.<\/p>\n

Fire and Emergency Services Minister Mark Ryan said on Thursday that $900,000 had been allocated in the 2017-18 State Budget for the project to relocate and upgrade the Kilkivan station.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe project is expected to be completed over two years with a total budget of $1.8 million,\u201d Minister Ryan said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis will give the local community a valuable base from which auxiliary firefighters can deliver their life-saving services.”<\/p>\n

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Assistant Commissioner North Coast Region John Cawcutt said the replacement station would help auxiliary firefighters get on with the important job of keeping people and property safe.<\/p>\n

Kilkivan’s firefighters consist of an auxiliary captain, two lieutenants and 10 auxiliary firefighters.<\/p>\n

(Auxiliary firefighters are casual firefighters who respond when needed to an emergency.)<\/p>\n

\u201cThe current station, built in 1971, has served the community well for more than 40 years but is now showing signs of wear and has been outgrown by its crew,” Minister Ryan said.<\/p>\n
