It’s not every day that “students” are encouraged to play with their mobile phones while the teacher is talking …<\/p>\n

But this was compulsory during Tim Gentle’s digital workshop held at the Kingaroy Town Hall on Friday night.<\/p>\n

Tim, from Victoria-based Think Digital, was brought to the South and North Burnett regions by economic development organisation BIEDO.<\/p>\n

He presented workshops in Monto, Gayndah, Wondai and Kingaroy,<\/p>\n

Topics covered included “Put Your Region On The Digital Map” and “Social Media Marketing 101”.<\/p>\n

BIEDO CEO Kristy Frahm said one of his largest presentations was at Burnett State College in Gayndah where Year 11 and Year 12 students, along with their teachers, took part.<\/p>\n

Two sessions were held in Kingaroy on Friday. Thirty people attended a social media matinee session while about 20 were at the evening session which covered Digital Mapping.<\/p>\n

This provided an opportunity for participants to learn about placing photographs – including 360 degree photos – on Google Street View search results.<\/p>\n

The demonstration then covered how to take 360 degree photos, \u00a0virtual reality and VR headsets, and augmented reality where virtual information or objects can be layered over real-word photographs or video.<\/p>\n

Tim said he expected the participants to now go out and photograph their towns and businesses in 360 degrees and show them off to the world on Google Maps.<\/p>\n
