A Durong resident concerned about the state of a section of Chinchilla-Wondai Road contacted southburnett.com.au<\/strong> last week, concerned that council had been ignoring his requests to fix the road.<\/p>\n

He was hoping a bit of publicity might spur the council into action.<\/p>\n

But he need not have worried. By the time we contacted Council a day later, the potholes had actually been filled in.<\/p>\n

Roads Portfolio chair Cr Gavin Jones said Council had the maintenance contract from Transport and Main Roads to maintain the Chinchilla-Wondai Road, a State road.<\/p>\n

He said Council had patched up the potholes a few days earlier but he urged residents to bring problems like this to Council’s attention as soon as possible.<\/p>\n

“We need to encourage people when they see issues like this to ring in a request rather than stand by and let the issue get bigger,” Cr Jones said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“If we know about it, we can fix it.”<\/p>\n

The Durong resident was pleased the potholes had been patched but was concerned with the length of time it had taken, and feared the repairs might not last.<\/p>\n

“It could have been better.\u00a0I wonder if they rushed out early this morning after yesterday’s (truck) accident near the Boyne River?” the resident said.<\/p>\n

“For the past four months I have been advising the South Burnett Regional Council about this problem, mainly because every time I drive into town I have to dodge these potholes.”<\/p>\n

He said the road damage, located on a rise going through a cutting,\u00a0had been a “fatality waiting to happen”.<\/p>\n

“From the photo (taken looking east heading into town) you will see that to avoid the potholes you either have to drive to the left which will force you into the drain and crash, or drive to the right of the road into oncoming traffic,” the resident said.<\/p>\n

The resident blamed trucks, B-Doubles and increased traffic by RVs for causing damage on Chinchilla-Wondai Road.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
