\nMember for Nanango Deb Frecklington is reminding all sport and recreation clubs that time is almost up to apply for funding in the first round of the State Government\u2019s new “Get in the Game” initiative.<\/p>\n

Mrs Frecklington said the sign-up period for the initial “Get Going and Get Playing” grants will close on December 1.<\/p>\n

She said clubs also needed to remember to register for the “Get Started” voucher program which officially opens in January 2013.<\/p>\n

\u201cTwenty-two sporting clubs in the region have applied to be registered for the ‘Get Started’ voucher program for young people, which is a fantastic result,\u201d Mrs Frecklington said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, I want to ensure all our sport and recreation clubs in the region are registered as its an excellent way to help them attract new members.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis grassroots sporting initiative is another way the Newman Government is helping to ease the cost of living for Queensland families.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sport and Recreation Minister Steve Dickson said “Get in the Game” consisted of three funding programs worth $18 million over three years.<\/p>\n

\u201c ‘Get Started’ will provide more than 40,000 vouchers worth up to $150 to help with the cost of registration fees for children who are least able to afford it, or would otherwise benefit from joining a sporting club,\u201d Mr Dickson said.<\/p>\n

\u201c ‘Get Going’ will see $10,000 grants paid directly to local sporting clubs to help them grow through the purchasing of new sporting equipment or promoting new membership initiatives.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd the ‘Get Playing’ program will provide $100,000 grants for clubs to upgrade or replace existing facilities and infrastructure.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe look forward to working with clubs throughout the State to ensure Queenslanders have access to sporting and recreational opportunities and facilities wherever they live.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
