A new Director of Nursing \u00a0has started work in the South Burnett.<\/p>\n

Registered nurse and midwife Margaret Wedge began her career in health at the Princess\u00a0Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane, where she did her nursing training.<\/p>\n

She then worked as a nurse in Rockhampton and completed her midwifery training before\u00a0moving back to Brisbane to work in a range of areas including perioperative nursing, and quality\u00a0and safety.<\/p>\n

During this time Ms Wedge undertook further study including a Graduate Diploma in Health Leadership and Management, and a Master\u2019s Degree in advanced nursing \u2013 infection control.<\/p>\n

Ms Wedge then pursued her interest in rural health, working in a number of roles for the South\u00a0West Hospital and Health Service, culminating in becoming Director Of Nursing at Roma Hospital.<\/p>\n

When the position of DON Rural South Burnett became available within the Darling Downs\u00a0Hospital and Health Service (DDHHS), Ms Wedge welcomed the opportunity to further her\u00a0career in rural health.<\/p>\n

Ms Wedge\u2019s new role is based in Kingaroy but covers the whole South Burnett cluster which\u00a0also includes Cherbourg, Murgon, Nanango and Wondai.<\/p>\n

\u201cDON Rural South Burnett is a really great role that is challenging and requires me to use all of\u00a0my on-the-job experience and higher education learning,\u201d Ms Wedge said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI heard good things about the Kingaroy area as a place to live and work, all of which I have\u00a0found to be true.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe South Burnett cluster of the DDHHS has a great staff of very experienced and hardworking\u00a0professionals who are passionate and highly skilled.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe DDHHS itself supports the cluster to deliver an excellent community health service that\u00a0reflects its values of compassion, integrity, dignity, innovation and courage.<\/p>\n

\u201cKingaroy offers a great rural lifestyle and I am particularly enjoying exploring the many walking\u00a0trails around the area with my labrador.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms Wedge said she was looking forward to continually improving the high standard of rural\u00a0health services in the South Burnett.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am passionate about nursing and enabling nurses to work to their full scope of practice,\u201d she\u00a0said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis region has a geographical advantage of its health services being located close together,\u00a0making it easier for health service teams to integrate and work together to achieve better health\u00a0outcomes for patients.<\/p>\n

\u201cI also hope to work with the local community to get feedback on what a great health service\u00a0means to them and will strive to deliver that to the best of my ability.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
