The Mayor’s Gala Charity Ball held at Kingaroy Town Hall on May 20 has broken a fundraising record.<\/p>\n

The Ball raised an astonishing $56,000 for the South Burnett Community Hospital – $7000 more than originally forecast.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Mayor Keith Campbell said initial estimates for the Charity Ball had been “conservative” but now that all invoices had been processed and takings tallied up, the final figure was higher.<\/p>\n

The Mayor said the event was a testament to the strong level of support the community hospital had in the wider South Burnett.<\/p>\n

“We had 350 guests attend on the night, and the support we received from our major sponsors King and Company Solicitors, Stanwell, Downer, UGL and Hitachi was wonderful,” Mayor Campbell said.<\/p>\n

“Kingaroy’s SupaIGA also played a big role and we had support from many other people, too.<\/p>\n

“I’m grateful to everyone who had a hand in making the night the biggest Mayor’s Charity Ball fundraiser yet.”<\/p>\n

Mayor Campbell said he will be attending a meeting of the Community Hospital Foundation’s board next Tuesday night (June 13) to hand over a cheque for the ball’s proceeds.<\/p>\n

“The money will be used by the Foundation to purchase more specialised medical equipment, which will help attract more specialists to the hospital,” he said.<\/p>\n

“This in turn helps our region’s residents avoid long trips to Toowoomba or Brisbane when they need specialist medical attention, and that’s good for everyone.”<\/p>\n

The Mayor said an extra benefit of having the Community Hospital operating in the region was that it helped make the area more attractive to potential new residents.<\/p>\n

“We know that many people look at the availability of good health and medical services when they weigh up where to move to,” the Mayor said.<\/p>\n

“Having a wide range of specialist services available is a feather in our cap.”<\/p>\n
