The University of Southern Queensland is urging emerging and established artists in regional and remote areas to enter the 2017 Queensland Regional Art Awards.<\/p>\n

The awards are produced by Flying Arts Alliance and there are eight on offer, with cash prizes and residencies available totalling more than $25,000.<\/p>\n

A new category has been introduced this year, especially for artists located more than 300km from an urban centre.<\/p>\n

The Remote Artist Award offers a fully funded one week residency at McGregor Summer School in January 2018 valued at $2500, thanks to USQ Artsworx.<\/p>\n

USQ Artsworx Manager Mark Millett said his team was excited to be part of the competition.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe McGregor Summer program will celebrate its 50th event this coming January, so it\u2019s great timing for us, and a fantastic opportunity for a remotely located artist to come to Toowoomba and learn from some of Australia\u2019s most renowned artists,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

All entries that meet the criteria will be eligible for the Flying Arts \u2018Art for Life\u2019 Award of $10,000, be displayed in an online gallery for entry into the People\u2019s Choice awards, and have the opportunity to be selected for a touring exhibition to visit Brisbane and regional centres in 2018.<\/p>\n

Entries close at\u00a05:00pm on July 17.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Flying Arts Alliance Executive Officer Kerryanne Farrer said she was excited to see how people interpreted the 2017 theme – exploring the unique elements of Queensland.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile some of the iconic features of regional and rural Queensland are well known, others are only clear when you\u2019re a part of those tight-knit communities,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
