South Burnett Directions wrapped up its successful shopper loyalty program with a function for participating business owners at the TAFE Qld South West campus in Kingaroy recently.<\/p>\n

The “South Burnett Rewards” program involved businesses from Proston to Blackbutt … from car dealers to cafes, and hotels to gyms.<\/p>\n

Visitors to the businesses were invited to join a loyalty program run by Rewardle which involved collecting points by swiping a card. This made them eligible to win prizes from other businesses in the program, encouraging cross-promotion between shops.<\/p>\n

A total of 53 businesses took part in South Burnett Rewards, which was launched during Small Business Week in May last year.<\/p>\n

The businesses, which could be identified by the red “surf flags” out the front, signed up 4204 shopper members who gathered more than 587,956 reward points.<\/p>\n

John Carey, from South Burnett Directions, said “shop local” had been identified as part of the region’s Economic Development Strategy which was why the project had been developed.<\/p>\n

South Burnett Mayor Keith Campbell said Council recognised it was very important to support small businesses in the South Burnett.<\/p>\n

“We can celebrate tonight the continuing and ongoing success that you as businesspeople in the area deserve,” he said.<\/p>\n

Mayor Campbell also announced that a new Economic Development Manager would be starting in July at Council. This follows the departure of previous manager Phil Harding.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rewardle Queensland manager James Deans praised the Council staff – and former staff – who had worked on the South Burnett Rewards program, including Sharyn Garrett, Sheena Lindholm and Kristy Board.<\/p>\n

He said 1250 rewards had been given away to shoppers during the promotion.<\/p>\n

And although the South Burnett Rewards scheme was winding up, he invited businesses to continue with the Rewardle program for $49 \u00a0a month.<\/p>\n

“We have never had this amount of businesses involved in a region. It has been a learning experience for us as much as you,” Mr Deans said.<\/p>\n

South Burnett Directions is a committee attached to the Economic Development Unit at the South Burnett Regional Council.<\/p>\n
