Former Nanango State High School vice-captain Nathan Trace, 21, is back at his old school as a science and PE teacher after graduating recently from the University of the Sunshine Coast.<\/p>\n

\u201cTeaching and working with children is something I have always wanted to do,\u201d Nathan said.<\/p>\n

Nathan, 21, is well-known local AFL player who was named the South Burnett Saints\u2019 best and fairest and players\u2019 player last year.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy dual Secondary Education and Science degree has given me the opportunity to come back to my local area, work with kids and play sport every day, so I am very happy,\u201d Nathan said.<\/p>\n

While at USC, he coached junior teams and ran the local AFL Auskick competition for the Nambour Football Club. He now co-ordinates Auskick in the South Burnett.<\/p>\n

Returning to his home town has also allowed him to stay involved in the family farming business, Dunngullen Brahmans and Hay Supplies, at Brooklands.<\/p>\n

Nathan said he chose USC\u2019s Sippy Downs campus for its location less than three hours from Nanango.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe lecturers and tutors made a genuine effort to learn about you and gave a lot of support throughout my degree,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing in smaller cohorts, we got to know everyone and help each other right through uni. Now, as teachers, we still share ideas and stories.\u201d<\/p>\n

Among his fellow students was his cousin Ashleigh Trace, from Kingaroy, who also graduated in the same ceremony in April with a dual Bachelor of Secondary Education and Science from USC.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ashleigh, 22, attended Kingaroy State High School, and is now working as a maths and science teacher at Blackwater State High School.<\/p>\n

The Trace cousins were high achievers at their former schools. Nathan was awarded Nanango State High School\u2019s highest honour, the Prix d\u2019Honneur, for being an outstanding all-round student in Year 12.<\/p>\n

Ashleigh received a $6000 USC Vice-Chancellor\u2019s Merit Scholarship to study at the University based on her high academic achievement at Kingaroy State High School.<\/p>\n
